The five screens

The web app has a sidebar and the phone has a tab bar along the bottom. Both lead to the same five places: Home, Energy, Control, Tariffs and Settings.

Home

Home is a list of widgets you arrange yourself. Out of the box you get:

  • Battery: charge now, how long until full or until the reserve, and stored energy.
  • Flow diagram: solar, grid, home and battery as a picture, with the power running along its lines.
  • Live flows: solar, home, battery and grid. They update every 30 seconds while you watch on Pro and trial, or every five minutes otherwise.
  • Driving: who is in charge of the Powerwall right now (you, your rules, or the AI plan) and what fires next. It also shows the settings at a glance: mode, reserve, export, grid charging, Storm Watch and off-grid vehicle reserve. A change made in the Tesla app shows here within about a minute on Pro and trial, or within five minutes on Free.
  • Today so far: generated, used, exported, imported, the solar forecast and what is still to come, plus spent, earned, net and (Pro) saved.
  • Recent changes: the last five settings changes and who made each one: you, a rule, the AI, or External (the Tesla app, a smart-home hub or the system itself).

Customising Home

Press Customise at the foot of the page. Every widget gets a bar with its name, up and down arrows and Remove. Under each bar, the widget's parts appear as pills you can switch off and on; for example, hide "Spent" but keep "Saved". Two − / + pairs set each widget's width (a third, a half or the full row) and its size (S, M or L).

Reset to default at the bottom asks twice, and Done saves. Changes also save a moment after you make them. Customising is free on every plan, and the phone and the web each keep their own arrangement.

Energy

Energy is one timeline for the past and the future. Pick Day, Week, Month, Year or All and page through the dates.

  • A past day shows what was recorded, with that day's forecast dashed alongside, so you can see how good the forecast was.
  • Today shows what has been recorded so far, with the whole day's forecast running on past now.
  • Tomorrow and the day after are forecast only.

The Day view has tiles for energy generated, used, exported and imported, and for the solar forecast and what is still to come. There are also money tiles for spent, earned, net and saved.

After a few days of history, there is also Expected use. This is what your home usually draws on a day like this, learned from your own history, with weekdays and weekends kept separate when there is enough of each. It is what the AI plans the evening around, and rules can use it too.

Longer ranges add generated versus used, grid flow per day and money per day. Fold out Weather for the hourly strip with temperature and cloud cover.

Reading a chart. Move the mouse over any chart, or drag a finger across it, and a line with the values follows you. Let go and the line stays where you stopped, so you can read the values after your finger is out of the way. Tap somewhere else to move it, or tap the same spot to clear it.

The money tiles need your real tariff. The forecast needs your location and roof details.

Control

Control has three tabs under one Driving line: Powerwall, Rules and AI.

The Powerwall tab holds the levers, each with an (i) explaining it:

  • Backup reserve: the share of the battery held back for a power cut. Normal use never discharges below it. Slide and release to apply.
  • Operation mode: Self-Powered stores solar surplus for the evening, while Time-Based Control charges and discharges around the tariff that is on the Powerwall. See how time-based control works.
  • Storm Watch: when severe weather is forecast, Tesla charges the battery to full ahead of it, using grid power if needed. It is only shown for storm-capable sites.
  • Export: Solar + battery, Solar only or No export.
  • Grid charging: whether the battery may charge from the grid. Rules and AI plans that fill up on cheap overnight power need this on.
  • Off-grid vehicle charging: during an outage, the share of the battery kept for the house rather than the car. It is only shown where supported.

Below the levers, Changes lists every settings change and who made it. A change you make shows up once the follow-up poll confirms it, usually within seconds.

The Rules tab holds your own automations, and the AI tab holds the planner.

Tariffs

Tariffs shows today's and tomorrow's real prices as a chart, with tiles for the price now, the cheapest and dearest half-hours and the best export. Tomorrow's half-hourly Octopus prices are published around 16:00. Your tariff and Powerwall tariff live here too; see Prices and tariffs.

Settings

Settings holds your site, AI providers, appearance, language and currency, subscription, account and data. Each one is described in Plans and settings.
