Getting started

From a new account to a Powerwall that runs itself in about twenty minutes. Each step links to the page with the detail.

Quick start

Home shows steps 2 to 8 as a six-step Getting started card. It ticks steps off as you do them and links to each screen. Skip any step you don't want, or Hide this list to put the card away (Customise on Home brings it back). After each step, the screen you are on names the next one.

  1. Create your account at sunharvest.net/app/register, or install the app from Google Play and press Create an account. Confirm your email from the message we send; that signs you in.
  2. Connect the Powerwall. On Home, under Connect your Tesla, press Connect Tesla, tick the consent box, press Agree & connect, and sign in on Tesla's page with the account the Powerwall is on. Back in SunHarvest the status dot turns green and live figures appear within about a minute. (Connecting your Powerwall)
  3. Tell it where you are. In Settings › Site, enter your latitude and longitude (long-press your house in Google Maps to get them). Add one row per roof array with its kWp, tilt and direction, then press Save location and arrays. This switches on the solar forecast that rules and the AI rely on. (Your site)
  4. Enter your tariff. In Tariffs › Your tariff, pick your Octopus product and region for Import and Export, or type your fixed or time-of-use rates. Prices start recording at once and the money figures on Home become real. (Prices and tariffs)
  5. Write your first rule. Go to Control › Rules › + New rule. A good first one: When the import price falls below 10p, then grid charging on and reserve 100 %. Save it, leave it enabled, and check Home tomorrow to see it fire. Add more as you learn what your tariff rewards. (Rules)
  6. Get an AI key. A free one is fine to start: create a Google AI Studio key at aistudio.google.com/apikey, which takes about two minutes. Anthropic and OpenAI work too and need a small prepaid balance. (AI providers)
  7. Add the key. In Settings › AI providers › Add a provider, pick the provider, paste the key, press Add provider, then Test. You should see "working" and the model that replied.
  8. Describe your goal and switch AI mode on. In Control › AI, write what matters in plain words, press Save goal, then Plan now. You can start from a chip such as Cheap import or Export income and edit it. Read the plan, and if it makes sense, switch AI mode on. The planner now replans every three hours around your tariff, forecast and battery. Your own rules pause until you switch it off. (Writing a goal)

Prefer to stay in charge? Stop after step 5; steps 6 to 8 are optional. Everything here is included in the 30-day trial. After the trial, rules stay free and AI mode is a Pro feature.

Your account

Registering

Go to sunharvest.net/app/register (or Create an account on the app's sign-in screen) and enter your email. Set a password of at least 8 characters, tick the boxes to accept the privacy policy and the terms of service, and press Create account. You will see "Nearly there — we've sent a link to …". Click the link in that email to confirm the address, and it signs you in. Send it again is on the same screen if the email does not arrive; check the spam folder first.

If someone sent you an invitation link, open that instead. It is valid for 14 days and usable once. Because it reached your inbox, no confirmation email is needed and you land signed in.

Signing in

Sign in with your email and password at sunharvest.net/app/login or on the app's first screen. If two-factor is on, a second screen asks for the 6-digit code from your authenticator app, or one of your recovery codes.

The Android app stays signed in for 90 days after you last used it, and a browser for 14 days; the session refreshes itself silently while you use it. Signing out on one device does not sign out the others. Changing your password or email does, deliberately.

Forgotten password

Press Forgot your password? on the sign-in page and enter your email. A reset link arrives that works once, for an hour. When you set a new password, every other signed-in device is signed out.

Account security (Settings › Account)

  • Change password needs the current one. Every other device is signed out; the one you are on stays in.
  • Change email needs the current password. Your email is also your sign-in name, and the subscription and billing records move with it. A confirmation link goes to the new address, and other devices can't sign in again until you click it. The old address is told about the change.
  • Two-factor (2FA) is optional and works with any authenticator app (Google Authenticator, Authy, 1Password, Microsoft Authenticator and others). Set up shows a QR code and a typeable key. Scan or type it, enter the 6-digit code, and press Verify & switch on. You are then shown one-time recovery codes exactly once. Save them somewhere safe: each one rescues a single sign-in if you lose the authenticator.

The Android app

Install SunHarvest from Google Play. Open it and sign in: it is the same account as the web app, with the same data. Updates come through Google Play like any other app, and you stay signed in.

The home-screen widget

Long-press a blank area of your home screen, then choose Widgets › SunHarvest. Placing it opens a small settings screen where you choose Match phone / Dark / Light and tick the figures you want:

  • Now: the flow diagram, battery %, solar, home, grid and battery flow.
  • Today: generated, used, exported, imported, spent, earned and net.
  • Prices: import price and export price.
  • Control: who is driving, and the next rule to fire.

The widget refreshes every couple of minutes while the screen is on. It keeps the last good figures when the phone is offline, with a "Last updated" line, and updates instantly while the app is open.

What is different on the phone

  • Home is arranged separately on the phone and on the web, so the phone can be simpler.
  • Connecting Tesla and paying for Pro open in the phone's browser and come back into the app by themselves.
  • Appearance (dark or light) is a per-device choice; language and currency are on the account.

Connecting your Powerwall

Start from the card on Home ("Connect your Tesla") or the Tesla connection card at the top of Settings › Site.

  1. Press Connect Tesla.
  2. A notice explains what will be collected and sent. Live power flows, battery level, settings and energy history are read and stored to power the screens, forecasts, rules and AI plans. Only the commands you set up are ever sent. Your site location is shared only with the weather service. Tick I consent… and press Agree & connect.
  3. You are taken to Tesla's own sign-in page. Sign in with the Tesla account the Powerwall is on and approve SunHarvest. It asks for energy-device data and energy commands, plus a long-lived token so you do not have to sign in again. It asks for nothing about vehicles, and SunHarvest never sees your Tesla password.
  4. Back in SunHarvest, the Tesla connection card reads "Tesla connected".

What happens next. The first live reading arrives within about half a minute. The last seven days of energy history are pulled in over the first few sweeps, so the Energy page fills backwards from today. Everything after that is recorded as it happens. Forecasts start within minutes of saving your location.

Disconnecting. Go to Settings › Site › Tesla connection and press Disconnect Tesla, then tap again to confirm. This removes only the Tesla tokens; your history and settings stay. You can also revoke SunHarvest from your Tesla account at any time.

One account per Powerwall. A Powerwall can be linked to one SunHarvest account at a time. If you connect a Powerwall that is already on another account, the link is refused. Sign in to that account instead, or if it is not yours, email [email protected].
